Problem

Within the Front Office product Suite, Asset Management is one of the most used applications – designed for Portfolio Managers to analyze and monitor all assets across their portfolios.

The current representation of the portfolio analytics tool, is a big grid, representing all underlying assets, with a lot of functionality hidden within the cells. It is hard for the Portfolio Managers to find the so-called ‘red-flags’ within their assets and spot opportunities.

In order for the product team to get a better understanding of the needs, wishes and aspirations of the portfolio managers, I was tasked to develop a vision concept for Portfolio Managers. Goal of this design concept was to describe common business tasks into a prototype to test in the markets and create appetite for investment.

Process

In order to get a good understanding of what an actual workday of the Portfolio Managers looks like, I interviewed 4 professionals across banks and insurance companies where we talked about their day, their preferred processes and what triggers them to make changes to assets in their portfolios. Based on these findings, I developed an elaborate design concept that walks through a couple of the typical workflows, like buying or selling assets and collecting market data.

Design

The design concept highlighted the opportunities that SimCorp has to optimize the Asset Manager software, especially in the area’s of insights into the markets, transparency and summary of data and interrupted workflows.
