Background
Microsoft Dynamics is a line of Enterprise Resource Planning software applications, targeted at smaller and medium sized companies – Dynamics NAV, Dynamics AX and DYnamics CRM. Microsoft markets Dynamics applications through a network of reselling partners who provide specialized installation and customization support. Micorsofts’ development center in Copenhagen is responsible for all parts of the systems related to Logistics, Warehousing, Manufacturing, Sales and Purchasing.

Problem
For Dynamics AX 2012 a new module for Manufacturing was developed with special attention to the shop floor operators on the production floor. For companies with large production facilities, a light application like this can save them from the need to install the full ERP solution but still have an accurate overview of the production floor.
Design
I designed a tablet application that allows them to register their progress on assigned production jobs, attendance and material status.
For Dynamics, this was the first touch operated module to be developed, so an important part of the design process was to investigate and understand the paradigms and best practices for touch enabled input at that time (2011).
